The book asserts that sleep deprivation is linked to numerous fatal diseases, including dementia. Why We Sleep became a New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller. The book received generally positive reviews from mainstream critics, while also garnering criticism from academics for making broad or unfounded claims and alarmism.
